Dans la glace?

The title is taken from the french poet Henri Michaux’s Poteaux d’Angle, of which I am extremely fond and which, curiously, may well be one of the most useful books for my photography I have ever read, without being a book about photography at all.

There is usually a copy of it in my camera bag.

The original line reads “Faute de soleil, sache mûrir dans la glace” meaning (my translation) “In the absence of sunlight, know how to ripen in ice”.

There is an English translation of the book but, considering that  the title – which should surely be translated as Corner Posts – has become Tent Posts, I don’t hold out much hope for the contents. At least it is a bilingual edition…

David Paul Carr?

Simply my name, but one I didn’t use in full to sign my work until I realized that any internet image serarch for David Carr alone brought up hundreds of pictures of american football… Try it, you’ll see.

So where’s the commercial work? Can I see some of it?

Well yes, of course… Just send an e-mail and we will send you a link to a private gallery or – better still – put one together that relates to your project.

What appears here and on the main website is just a selection of the work I do.

More often than not I’m not authorized to publish work done for clients on my own (public) website and obtaining permission to do so would generally be far too complicated.

My work is extremely varied and much of it involves finding bespoke solutions for clients. Each case is different so I try to put together commercial portfolios that are relevant to the project in question.
